OFFICE POLICY
We attempt to avoid difficulties and misunderstandings by having a written office policy.  These pages contain a partial listing of office policies to date.  As need arises additions will be made.
  1.  Working hours:
    a. You are expected to arrive for work at least 30 minutes before your shift starts.
    b. Lunch break starts during the lunch hour after the last morning patient has been processed.
    c. The workday is over after closing time and the last patient of the day has been processed
    d. Staff may be expected to attend functions outside of office hours.
    e. Staff is expected to arrive for work ready and able to work.  You should arrive well rested and clear-headed. Partying the night before a workday is frowned upon.  If work is affected it may result in a reprimand or other disciplinary action.
  2.  It is important that staff understand office procedures and all staff will be expected to take continuing education classes. These classes include applied kinesiology courses and practice management courses. Tuition for these classes will be covered by the office as well as traveling expenses where applicable. Time spent in continuing education does not count toward staff salary but staff will be compensated for regular office time missed because of classes.
  3. Staff is expected to be an example of a healthy lifestyle as espoused by this office.  Staff is therefore not to use tobacco, recreational drugs or excessive amounts of alcohol.  Staff is expected to strive toward a healthy lifestyle.
  4. This is an equal opportunity office.  In order to work effectively here, staff must be free of prejudice based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnic background etc. In particular, we have patients who are gay or belong to non-Christian, Pagan religions.  Staff must be able to work comfortably with these and others who do not fit the national status quo.
  5. Appearance must at all times be neat, clean and professional.
  6. Staff must be able to take orders well but must also, after an initial training period, be able to work unsupervised.
  7. There will be a three month probation period for all new staff.  This will give us time to see if you are suited for this job and vice-versa. Employment may be terminated before this time in cases of obvious incompatibility
  8. Staff performing satisfactorily after their first six months will receive a raise of fifty cents per hour. Staff will be reevaluated every six months for raises based on improvement in job skills and personal performance as well as office productivity and collections.
  9. Although individual days may total more than eight hours, the total weekly hours will usually be around forty (25-30 for part-time staff).  Staff may occasionally be asked to work on Thursdays or weekends.  Hours over 30/week must be pre-approved.
  10. Each staff member will be covered for four sick days per year after six months of employment. Sick days are to be used only for serious illness.  Frivolous or excessive use of sick days may result in loss of this benefit.  Staff members are expected to make a commitment to their health, consistently working to improve and maintain it. Staff members are responsible for making sure that there is someone to cover them during sick days.
  11. Each staff member is expected to receive regular health care at this office.  Regular care will be provided free of charge to full time staff and their immediate family (eg. spouse and children).  Part time staff will receive free care for themselves with immediate family members receiving a 50% discount.  Nutritional supplements, supports etc. will be available at wholesale cost. Staff is encouraged to avoid accumulating an outstanding balance on their supplements. Any balance remaining when staff leaves employment will be deducted from their final two paychecks.
  12. There are several ways in which staff may earn bonuses:
    1. For every patient you directly refer to this office and who completes and pays for at least three visits you will receive a bonus of $50.00.
    2. From time to time spontaneous bonuses may be given in recognition of exceptional work or commitment shown in some area.
    3. Other bonuses are available based on office volume.
    4. These bonuses are exclusive of one another.  Thus it is possible to earn bonuses in all categories in the same week.
    5. There will be a bonus given at Yuletide for all staff with 6 months or more of employment.  This bonus will be based on office income, and individual productivity.
  13. It is essential that members of this office team trust each other.  I (Dr. Hogg) will work to instill that trust and the same will be expected of all staff members.  Dishonesty on any level may be grounds for dismissal.
  14. Vacation time will be earned after one year of employment and will total forty hours for full time staff (30 hours for part-time).  This time may be used for a one-week vacation or may be used in smaller pieces.  Use of vacation time must be approved in advance. If the office is to be open during the requested time, a suitable replacement must be arranged before vacation time will be approved.  One additional eight-hour day (six hours for part-time) of vacation time will be provided each additional year of employment up to a total of 80 hours (60 hours part-time)
  15. Personal leave days may be granted without pay to handle personal emergencies.  Sick time should not be used for these situations but vacation time may be used.  Personal leave days should be kept to a minimum since any absence of regular staff tends to disrupt office procedure.  Staff is responsible for finding a suitable replacement on any personal leave days.
  16. Paid holidays for staff will include one day on New Years Day, Spring Equinox/Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Yuletide.
  17. Staff is eligible to participate in the office Simple IRA plan after one year if they make at least $5000 in the previous year.

I have read and understand these items of office policy.
